Congratulations to Destin Cretton, our Envision Cinema
Teaching Artist and the new Media Production ROP Teacher, and his production
team received the Best Short Film Award at the 2009 Sundance Film
Festival for his film "Short Term 12".
Congratulations to CCA Video Film Teacher Mark Raines for recognition as
National CTE Teacher of the Year!

CCA
is proud to announce that the North County Times selected two CCA students
as All North County Athletes.
Congratulations to Samantha Cash (3rd Team, Girls Volleyball) and Grant
Jurgensen (2nd Team, Boys Water Polo.)
CCA
Wrestling won their highest placing ever at a dual tournament. CCA finished
3rd out of 16 teams at the Mater Dei Dual tournament on January 17th. -
Individually Daniel Gallenson and Steffen Chen were Gold Medalists and
Elliott Adams and Jeff Lorenzen were Silver Medalists.
CCA is
hosting the Coastal Conference League Tournament on February 11th at 4 PM.
and invites everyone to come watch the team in action. The team is looking
forward to receive their first league title after finishing 3rd last season.
CIFs San Diego section has
recognized the CCA Boys Water Polo as a CIFSDS All Academic Team for their
effort in academics, earning the highest unweighted grade point average as
compared to other member teams in the same sport. The team and students were
recognized at a ceremony on January 22. Congratulations team members,
coaches and support staff for this achievement!
CCA ASB
received a Sony grant consisting of a new laptop and video camera for their
successful involvement with last year's Buick Invitational, hosted by the
Century Club of San Diego.
We were one of only
two schools who received
it in San Diego County. Great job CCA ASB!
Congratulations to Ronit Abramson and Julia Zhang, named as semifinalists of
the Intel Science Talent Research 2009. 300 students are selected as
semifinalists from 176 high school across the country and are recognized as
the best and brightest young scientific minds in
America. Each semifinalist receives a
$1,000 award with an additional $1,000 going to his or her respective school.
40 of the 300 semifinalists will be selected to compete for the $100,000
grand prize. 25 students were selected in California, only 3 students from San Diego area. All 3 students were from San
Dieguito Unified High School District. Ronit Abramsons project is Use
of Epilithic Diatoms as Biological Indicators of Pharmaceutical Runoff;
looking at the efficacy of using diatoms, a tupe of golden-brown algae, as a
bioindicator for detecting pharmaceuticals in waterways. Julia Zhangs
project is Phosphatidylserine Receptor Protein PTDSR Induces Neurite Outgrowth by
Regulating Histone Methylation and Gene Expression; examining how
protein receptors can regulate DNA genetic information and the implication
in the onset of neurodegenerative diseases.
Our Envision program received a letter of
commendation from USC Thornton School of Music, Director of Admission for
being a music program to watch!
CCA Math Team places 10th place in
National Math contest! Administered by the National Assessment and Testing
organization, several
Canyon
Crest Academy
students received individual awards, helping their team to place
10th in the nation.
Raymond Wu placed 25th in the 9th grade
division, while Marco Gentili was 23rd in the 10th grade
division. In the 11th
grade division, Leon Zhou placed 12th and David Ding was 26th.
National Assessment and Testing
contests cover a variety of formats, including individual and team tests, as
well as a variety of difficulties, from one hundred easy problems in thirty
minutes to fifteen complex problems in one week.
Congratulations to Tanooj Luthra, who
qualified as a semifinalist in the 2008-09
Siemens Competition in Math,
Science and Technology. The Siemens Competition is one of the leading
science and mathematics research-based competitions for high school
students.
