School Site Council

School Site Council is an elected group of parents, teachers, students and staff working together to improve our school's education programs. School site councils were developed in response to California law, which requires them to allocate and monitor the School Improvement Grant, Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) funding, as well as develop and oversee the Single Plan for Student Achievement - a document that guides school improvement.

At Canyon Crest Academy, Site Council members are also responsible for keeping informed on legislative changes affecting education, and advising the administration on campus issues.

In 2011-12 CCA will have TWO parent representative opening. The selected candidate will serve for 2 years.  To learn more about the candidates please read their statements below.  To vote, please CLICK HERE

As a parent of two boys who attend CCA, the school's educational programs along with the school's plan for student achievement are very important to me.  In the past I have been very involved with the Solana Beach Foundation for Learning.  For two years I co-chaired the Solana Highlands Boutique, Luncheon and Silent Auction.  For another two years I co-chaired Solana Pacific's Boutique and Silent Auction along with serving as VP of Programs.

Ansuya Bose
My name is Ansuya Bose and I have a freshman, Gautam Bose, starting school this year, with two younger brothers to follow. For the last seven years I have taught at The Rhoades School, while also managing a local business. I would like to serve on the School Site Council as I have a passion for school and community development, and a vested interest in the continued success of CCA.

Karen Dishong
My name is Karen Dishong and I have two children at Canyon Crest.  I have a B.S. in Elementary Education/Special Education and have worked in a variety of educational settings including public school, Montessori, and for private tutoring companies.  I have also recently completed intensive training in child advocacy. I have always been highly involved in my child’s education and would very much like to continue by serving on CCA’s Site Council.  I have the time and energy to devote to preparing for and attending the meetings.

Matt Modungo
To put it simply, I would like to participate in this council to continue building a better CCA through the exchange of good ideas and solutions from parents, students and the school. I have lived in San Diego for 21 years, I have a freshman student-athlete at CCA and a 6th grader at Ashley Falls, and have worked 20+ years in financial services. We are all fortunate to live in such a progressive and beautiful city. To continue building CCA to be the best school possible, I would like to devote my time to the council.

Heather Marker
I am currently a teacher in Poway Unified School District. I teach 5th grade. I was on my school's SSC for over five years. Last year I joined Carmel Valley Middle School's SSC. I am interested in being a member of Canyon Crest Academy's SSC too, since it will be interesting to see the continuum of how this works from Kindergarten to twelfth grade.

Wanda Refaely
I am the proud parent of a CCA sophomore.  I am anxious to bring the combination of my degree in education along with my professional marketing and development experience in the non-profit youth programs sector to the CCA community of students and families.  The current economic and legislative climate demands creative problem solving whilst maintaining a keen eye on the careful allocation of precious resources- skills I am ready, willing and able to offer.

Jacqueline Ross
In the past, I have served on the Site Councils for my child’s elementary and middle schools.  I have background and training in education as well as being a parent and businesswoman in the community.  I enjoy participating in the school and supporting activities at this level.

Katherine White
I would be honored to serve CCA on site counsel.  I have served on site council at Earl Warren Middle School and Del Mar Heights Elementary.  I have been PTA president (elementary, middle & high school).  I am currently on the board of the Winston School.  My work background at Qualcomm covered management as well as engineering and I worded many legislative areas launching Cricket wireless markets.  Most recently I volunteered at CCA lunch carts.  Thank you.
