or parent of a student who would like extra help in the area of writing,
then this workshop is for you!
Part I: Writing Workshop:
Components include:
reading high-interest non-fiction piece, learning & practicing
annotating text (note taking), brainstorming ideas, creating a thesis,
outlining, drafting essay, proofreading w/ self-scoring rubric, and
publishing final draft.
By the end of the day, students will have written an essay that will be
taken by the instructing teacher and graded for students to pick up the
next week in order to get feedback. Students will walk away with help
documents and strategies written down for each step to use as a future
reference for school work.
Components include: reviewing basic differences between essay & research paper, learning how to identify reliable sources, learning where to find information, understanding and using MLA format, writing a research paper thesis, learning how to incorporate evidence, understanding how to avoid plagiarism, and learning how to correctly cite sources. Students will walk away with additional help documents and strategies written down for each step to use a future reference for school work.
