CCA Athletic Reminders:
Athletic Packets: The deadline for
spring sports athletics packets is this Wednesday, Feb. 1. If you
have already turned in a packet previously, a current grade report
is still needed (marked with your spring sport choice as well).
Please turn packets and grade reports in at the Athletics Dept.
inside the APs' office across from the Media Center.
Spring
Sports Clearance Cards: Students may pick up spring sports
clearance cards beginning Monday, February 13, through Thursday,
February 16, during lunch and after school only. On Monday and
Tuesday a table will be set up outside the Media Center during
lunch and after school for clearance card distribution. On
Wednesday and Thursday cards may be picked up inside the Athletic's
Office across from the Media Center in the APs' Office.
Spring
Sports Tryouts: Spring try-out dates & times will be posted on the
CCA Athletic Website by this Wednesday, Feb. 1st.

Subject: CCA Foundation SAT Prep
Hello Raven Families,
On Saturday, February 4th, the Canyon
Crest Academy Foundation is sponsoring two SAT test prep options: A
Mock SAT Test and A SAT Boot Camp.
The SAT Mock Test runs from
8:45am and ends at 12:40pm and will be held in the Cage. At 1:00pm
a parent/student presentation and score return begins (parents must
attend to receive scores). To register call Eureka Review at
877-463-8735. The fee is $20 (credit card or check). Students must
bring pencils and calculators.
The SAT Boot Camp runs from 9am
to 4pm and will be held in the Media Center. Students must bring
pencils and calculators. A one hour lunch break will be included,
but no food will be served. To register call Eureka Review at
877-463-8735. The fee is $79 (credit card or check).
Fifty
percent of the fees are donated to the Canyon Crest Academy
Foundation.

Next week the Counseling Department will
hold 11th grade student presentations during period 2 on
Wednesday January 18th and Thursday January 19th,
2012. On Wednesday January
18th at 6:30 pm, all parents of 11th graders students
are invited to the CCA Proscenium theater to attend a presentation
similar to the one’s their students’ received. In these
presentations, counselors will share information pertinent to the
junior year, including college entrance requirements, information
about SAT/ACT college admissions testing, explore relevant features
in Naviance, and provide a preview of the college application
process, including creating a college list. We hope you will join
us and not miss this opportunity to receive helpful information in
support of your student(s)!

Subject: Cure for Cancer Cup 1/16/12
Please plan on attending the first annual "Cure for Cancer Cup" soccer event between CCA and Cathedral Catholic this coming Monday, January 16th at Cathedral Catholic HS ( 5555 Del Mar Heights Road San Diego). The varsity girls game is scheduled for 4:00 PM, followed by the boys varsity game at 6:00 PM. This event is designed to raise awareness for breast cancer and will include a donation jar and a moment of silence for all those affected by this disease. We are encouraging all fans/students to wear pink to the game in support of the cause; we plan on having a "Pink Out!" The winning team of both the girls game and the boys game will receive a trophy that they will keep until next year's event. Thank you for your time ... we hope to see you at Cathedral HS next Monday afternoon to support this terrific cause.

Subject: Basket Auction
Dear Raven Families,
Canyon Crest Academy Clubs and Envision
Organizations are having a basket auction on Wednesday, January
18th, from 7-9 PM in the cage (next to The Nest). It is a silent
auction to raise funds for different student organizations on
campus. Each participating student organizations will be putting
together baskets of various items to be auctioned off. For example,
ASB will be auctioning off a movie themed basket, with movie
tickets, with candy, popcorn, etc. We would love for you to support
the diverse clubs and envision students on our campus by attending

includes important information of how to order a cap/gown for
graduationand how to order any other optional items (announcements,

The CCA swap meet is THIS Saturday from 7AM-1PM in the upper staff parking lot. Please stop by and check out all of the new and gently used items from over 45 vendors. AP Exam Registration begins

Canyon Crest Academy's Ecology Club is holding a one-side clean paper drive from December 12th-16th and January 3rd-6th! We are taking all white and colored paper that has been printed or used on only one side. Labeled bags can be found in any of your classrooms. We will be using the paper to make eco-friendly notebooks and sketchbooks to distribute at schools in need of art and school supplies. Please bring in any old homework, handouts, office papers, or any other print-outs or scratch paper with non-sensitive material on the back. Help us reuse and reduce the paper we consume! Subject: Winter Athletic Packets
Athletic Packet Deadlines - Winter Sports
The mandatory
Winter athletic packet deadline will be November 3rd & 4th from
7:30am-3:45pm. Athletic packets will be accepted at the CCA
Athletic Office located in the Assistant Principal's office. Please
remember we will need a copy of your student's most recent CCA
report card (progress report can be printed off Aeries), copy of
health insurance card and an updated physical (after June 1, 2011)
turned in with the packet. If you have already turned in a fall
athletic packet, please make sure to turn in your updated GPA
(progress report) information. The athletic packet will not be be
cleared or processed if packet is incomplete when turned in. Winter
Clearance Cards will be available for pick up in CCA Athletic
Office located in the Assistant Principal's office on November 9th
& 10th during lunchtime and after school until 3:45pm.
Please
keep in mind Winter sports begin on Saturday, November 12th . If
your student athlete does not have a Winter Clearance Card, he/she
will not be allowed to tryout. Please plan accordingly relative to
the above deadlines, dates and Clearance Card pick up times.

Subject: Parking at CCA
This is a reminder that there have been important changes regarding parking on the CCA campus for the 2011-12 school year. In order to ensure campus safety, all cars must display a valid CCA Parking Permit and be parked in the correct parking lot. Beginning tomorrow, October 3rd, cars without permits and those parked in the incorrect lots will receive an San Diego Police Department Parking Ticket. Please encourage your student to purchase a parking permit if they have not already done so and to park in the correct lot. Also a reminder that per SDUHSD Board policy and effective the 2011-12 school year, in order to purchase a parking permit, all students must attend a Start Smart class. This program, provided by the California Highway Patrol and San Dieguito Alliance, was created to educate future drivers and their parents about responsible driving. Mandatory attendance by the student and parent/guardian is required. There is no charge for this program and space is limited. On Wed. October 12, 2011, ALL SENIORS will attend mandatory UC &
CSU APPLICATION WORKSHOPS in the Proscenium Theater while 9th-11th
grade students take the PSAT. CSU/UC representatives will go
through the instructions and process for each application and
answer student questions. For students who have already started
their application(s), this is a chance to confirm that the
application is being completed correctly, and to ask questions
before submitting. Check in will begin at 7:45am, and the UC
workshop will begin promptly at 8:00 AM; the CSU application
workshop will begin at 10:00 AM. Students not applying to a UC or
CSU, must have their absence excused through the attendance office
by a parent/guardian.

Dear CCA Families,
We are proud to announce that Canyon Crest
is hosting the first TEDxYouth conference in San Diego that will be
held on November 20th.
TED conferences are annual events that
bring together inspiring and visionary thinkers to share ideas on
how to make the world a better place. These TED talks are viewed
globally via the internet on TED.com. Presenters are chosen from a
variety of disciplines ranging from technology, entertainment,
business development, science and design.
Throughout the summer
several teachers and students have been working to put together all
the facets of this massive event. Approximately 300 students from
all over San Diego county have been invited to participate, be
inspired and motivated by speakers that will share their
experiences and successes.
We are reaching out to you to help
to support this community wide effort. We need volunteers, food and
more.

Subject: Parking for 2011-12 at CCA
Dear Parent/Guardian and Student,
This is a reminder that
there have been important changes regarding parking on the CCA
campus for the 2011-12 school year. In order to ensure campus
safety, all cars must display a valid CCA Parking Permit and be
parked in the correct parking lot. Beginning October 1, 2011 cars
without permits and those parked in the incorrect lots will receive
an San Diego Police Department Parking Ticket. Before any car
receives a ticket, they will receive a warning. Please encourage
your student to purchase a parking permit if they have not already
done so and to park in the correct lot.
Per SDUHSD Board policy
and effective the 2011-12 school year, in order to purchase a
parking permit, all students must attend a Start Smart class. This
program, provided by the California Highway Patrol and San Dieguito
Alliance, was created to educate future drivers and their parents
about responsible driving. Mandatory attendance by the student and
parent/guardian is required. There is no charge for this program
and space is limited. To sign up for the next Start Smart class on
September 13, 2011, please email ccastartsmart@gmail.com. When you
RSVP, please include your name, your child's name and which session
you would like to attend. The class will run from 6:30-8:30pmpm in

Subject: Raven Readiness Days Reminder and info
Hello Raven Families,
This is a reminder
that Raven ReadinessDays will begin this week! All Readiness
materials can be found on the CCA website at
http://www.sduhsd.net/cc/key_info/readiness-11.php. Students who
are unable to attend their scheduled grade-level Raven Readiness
Day may attend any lower grade-level session AFTER their scheduled
grade-level day only. If you will miss all sessions, the next
opportunity to process your RavenReadiness materials will be the
first day of school.
After completing all of the Readiness
stations and picking up a class schedule, students may visit the
Counseling Office to address necessary course change requests. In
order to focus on student academic requirements, however, only the
following scheduling needs will be addressed during Readiness Days
only:
If a student:
· does not have a class schedule
· needs to repeat acourse in which they earned a D or F
· is
missing a class period or has a "See Counselor" note on the
schedule
· needs a level change (AP/Honors to college prep or
vice versa)
· needs to add an academic course for graduation or
college eligibility
· needs to drop a class
For other
requests, students may follow the add/dropprocess starting the
first day of school. In addition, please join us in welcoming
our new counselor, Rebecca Stoff. Ms. Stoff will serve at the
counselor for all 9th graders. The counselor breakdown for 2011-12
