*Q: How many years of world
language
do I need?
A: For the UC/CSU system, you need to complete a minimum of 2 courses in
one language (for example, French 1 and French 2) with a grade of C- or
better in order to be eligible to apply. However, those universities
strongly recommend that you complete 3 or more courses in one language.
For universities outside of the UC/CSU system, language requirements
vary greatly, and you should check with each institution's office of
admissions. World language is not a
requirement towards graduation in our district, however you do earn
elective credits.
*Q: If I completed a language course in middle school, does
that count towards the UC/CSU minimum?
A: Yes, if you earned a grade of C- or higher.
*Q: What languages are offered?
A: CCA is proud to offer classes in American Sign Language
(ASL), French, Japanese and Spanish. Courses range from the beginner
level to advanced.
*Q: If I took a language class in middle school, should I
move on to the next level or repeat?
A: If you completed a language class with a C- or higher at a
SDUHSD middle school, you should be well prepared to move on to the next
level of the language. If you completed the class at a school outside of
SDUHSD or are unsure of your level of preparation, check with your
language teacher, counselor or with the World Languages chairperson at
CCA.
