Principal's Message

Welcome to Sunset High School and North Coast Alternative High School!

I feel very fortunate to have been given the opportunity to serve as principal of Sunset and North Coast. We have many talented students and a dedicated staff committed to giving the students a rewarding and memorable experience here.

I am a native Californian. I grew up in Spring Valley in the East County, where I attended Mount Miguel High School. Following high school, I attended San Diego State University where I majored in International Business.

Upon graduation from SDSU, I worked in the private sector. Despite a couple of years of success in the business field, I soon realized that I was not satisfied doing this type of work. I then decided to go back to school to earn a teaching credential and Master’s Degree in Education from National University. During this time, I worked in the Special Education Department, coached the varsity baseball team, and completed my student-teaching at Crawford High School.

In 1997 I returned to Mount Miguel High School, this time as a teacher. I taught Economics and American Government and I also served as the A.S.B. Advisor for five years. I coached baseball there too. In 2003, I was given the opportunity to be an Assistant Principal at Mount Miguel. It was very rewarding for me to work at my former school and I enjoyed my stay there very much.

1n 2004 I decided to test new waters and I accepted an Assistant Principal position at Torrey Pines High School. While working at TP, I always welcomed the opportunity to visit Sunset and North Coast. I was impressed with the programs, the students, and the staff. When the principal’s position opened up, I was interested right away and here I am!

When I’m away from work, I enjoy spending time with my wife of 13 years, Krista, our 11-year-old daughter, Kyra, and our 8-year-old son, Ryan. Kyra and Ryan’s numerous school and sporting activities keep us busy. I also enjoy traveling, exercising, and playing golf. I’m a passionate Charger and Padre fan and, despite years of heartache, I keep cheering them on. I’m optimistic that sooner or later San Diego will be rewarded with a championship.

Through my experiences, I’ve worked with students from various backgrounds and every walk of life. I’ve seen many success stories and I firmly believe that every student has the ability to achieve. I feel well prepared to take on this new challenge in my career and I’m excited for the opportunity to work with Sunset and North Coast students, parents, and staff. Let’s have a great year!
