What to Bring to an AP Test

Students are responsible for the following items:  Photo ID, pencils, pens, and an approved calculator (if appropriate for specific test).  We also recommend you wear a watch to keep your own time/pace.

College Board AP Calculator Policy

Defining acceptable calculators for AP Exams

There are many types of calculators available on the market. However, only a few are approved for students to use in AP Exams. You can also visit the student area of collegeboard.com for subject-specific calculator policies:

·               Calculus AB

·               Calculus BC

·               Chemistry

·               Physics B

·               Physics C

·               Statistics

Before exam day, point your students to the most current lists of AP-approved calculators on collegeboard.com, and remind them to:

·               Bring the appropriate calculator on exam day

·               Review the features that are required or are not permitted

·               Check the batteries (fresh batteries are recommended)

Extra calculators

Students may bring up to two calculators to these exams, but they may not share calculators.

Calculator release statement

If the option of providing a calculator is not feasible, or if a student does not want to use a calculator, he or she can take an exam without one. However, if a student chooses to take an exam without a calculator, he or she must hand-copy, date, and sign the Calculator Release Statement (.pdf/95K) and indicate the name of the exam being taken, returning this release statement to the test proctor/s.

College Board AP Testing Cell Phone Policy

Over the past several years, the College Board has grown increasingly concerned about students' ability to transmit -- in a matter of seconds -- exam questions to others around the world. Cell phones and other electronic devices are prohibited from the exam room and may not be used during the break. Signs are posted outside the exam room alerting students to this policy. Additionally, students receive a final warning to turn over cell phones as part of the exam instructions. We strongly encourage schools to publicize the prohibition of cell phones and other electronic devices prior to exam day so that proctors do not spend valuable time collecting these items from students. If a student uses a cell phone, email/messaging device, MP3 player, PDA, or any other electronic or communication device in the exam room or during a break, the device should be confiscated and the student dismissed. The schools’ AP test coordinator will then contact the Office of Testing Integrity for further instructions.  Confiscated cell phones can be picked up in the AP office at the end of the testing day until 4pm.

Students with SSD Accommodations

The AP coordinator will ensure that all exams are properly ordered, distributed, and administered to the appropriate students based on approved accommodations only.  Typical accommodations for AP tests are provided for students in the SDA Conference Room on exam day.  For more information:  www.collegeboard.com/ssd

Irregularity during AP Testing

Proctors and the AP site coordinator will uphold all AP policies regarding misconduct during an AP test.  Students are to cooperate with all testing officials and understand consequences associated with irregularities.  The SDA Student Code of Conduct and Extra-curricular Code of Conduct will be used as well to discipline students.
