Write an essay no longer than 400 words about the importance of ethics and integrity in our community. discuss your viewpoints and give examples, as applicable. Visit the website to fill out an application from and submit essay online.

Education Matters Deadline Date: 10/31/09  www.scholarship Experts.com 
Write a short original, previously unpublished essay to the topic, "What would you say to someone who thinks education doesn't matter, or that college is a waste of time and money?".  You must complete an online application and submit your essay online. This is open to any high school student, must be a legal US resident and must be enrolled no later than the fall of 2014 in an accredited postsecondary institution of higher learning within the US

15 seniors to receive a scholarship in the amount of $7,000. Must plan to enter college or university as a full-time, degree-seeking student, GPA of 3.0-4.0 at time of graduation. Demonstrate financial need will increase the applicant's chances of qualifying for the scholarship.

Will award $1,500 scholarships to students with economic need. Applications will be accepted online beginning Dec. 15, 2009  through Feb. 15, 2010. Please go directly to the website for information.

Gates Millennium Scholarships Deadline Date:  paper submission 1/11/10 online www.gmsp.org 
Open to African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American.  Scholarship (based on unmet need) will be good up to five years in any discipline at the undergraduate level. Continuing Gates Scholars can receive fellowships in the fields of computer science, the sciences, education, engineering, library science, mathematics, and public health at the masters and doctoral degree levels. GPA of 3.3. Meet the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria. Have all three required forms submitted - Nominee Personal Information form, Nominator Form and Recommender form - by the deadline.

Knight Essay contest  Deadline Date: 01/02/10   Knight Essay -San Diego Chapter
Contest entries must be an original essay (800-1200 words). The topic must address an event, person, philosophy, or ideal associated with the American Revolution, The Declaration of Independence, or the Framing of the US Constitution. Awards range $50 - $2,000.

$10,000 to qualified students who achieve a minimum 3.0 GPA, attend two-yr or four-yr full-time, exhibit a financial need, demonstrate a strong commitment to civic participation, and live in a Cox Communications service area. See Susie for details.

One common application and submitting one set of materials will allow you to apply for more than 75 scholarships available through the San Diego Foundation. See Susie for details. The application can be done on-line.

Discover Scholarship Program Deadline Date: 01/31/09 online www.scholarshipadministrators.net 
Open to Junior's only. Student's cumulative GPA of 2.75 for 9th and 10th grade is required, have plans to continue his/her education beyond high school. May submit a paper application if desired. See Susie

Three to four page essay on "Importance of Establishing and Maintaining Good Credit during Your College Years". $2,500 first award, $2,000 second award, and $1,500 third award.

Southern California Mothers of Twins Club Deadline Date: 02/01/08
Applicants must be multiple birth students ( twins, triplets, or higher) or a mother of multiples. The following must be sent to: SCMOTC Scholarship, 13474 Russet Leaf Lane, San Diego, CA 92129: completed and signed application, current official transcript, two letters of recommendation from non-family members, written essay (min 300 words) on why you wish to continue your education and why you believe you should be considered for this award. San Diego County Salute to Education is available to high school seniors who reside in San Diego County and attend an accredited public or private school in participating areas. Scholarship recipients are selected for their personal achievements and their contributions to their communities and schools. Academic achievement is considered, but is not the sole determining factor for receiving a San Diego County Salute to Education scholarship.

KFC Scholars Scholarship Deadline Date: 02/15/08 www.kfcscholars.org
$5,000 per year. Assist students with financial need who plan to pursue a bachelor's degree at a public institution. Must have a GPA of 2.75 or higher, enroll in a public, in-state college or university, pursuing a bachelor's degree.

Applicants must be wholly or partly of Italian ancestry. Scholarships range from $500 - $5,000. Three categories: Academic awards for high school seniors, athletic scholarship, Italian Language Study Grants
San Diego County Latino General Scholarship Date: 03/03/08 www.becafoudation.org
Applicants may pursue their education anywhere in the US and major in any academic area. Scholarships range between $500 - $1000.  On-line application. Transcript and financial information required.
National Association of Women in Construction Deadline Date: 3/5/10 www.nawicsd.org
Two scholarships are being offered in the amount of $1,000. First one is for a male or female student pursuing any college degree who has a parent employed in the San Diego Construction industry. Second one is for a female student pursuing a college degree in a construction related profession such as Architecture, Engineering or Construction management.

Open to Disadvantaged graduating senior who plans to attend any S D County community college, college or university. This award is based entirely upon financial need. Each year there are 100 scholarships in the amount of $600 - $1000 in all areas of the County.
Martin Luther King, Jr. 2009 Visual and Performing Arts Educational Grants Deadline Date: 3/9/09 www.mlkccsd.org
GPA of 2.75 or better. If you are an artistically talented student  who is passionate about and committed to your chosen filed in the creative arts - be sure to apply for an educational grant ranging from $500 to $3,500. Must participate in a personal interview and will be required to present either a mini-showing of his/her work or a performance.

Outstanding scholar athletes based upon academic performance, athletic excellence, leadership, community service and milk experience. An opportunity to be pictured in a special congratulatory Milk Mustache ad in a June 2008 edition of USA Today and other national magazines.

High school seniors who are children of strawberry farm workers. Scholarship awards will be applied toward full-time status at a four year college/university, junior college or accredited trade school.

Italian Catholic Federation Deadline Date: 03/15/08
$400.00 scholarship to students who are Catholic and of Italian descent. Minimum GPA is 3.2. A person letter explaining applicant's Italian origin and applicant's plans for the future - 125 words

California Coast Credit Union Deadline Date: 03/31/08
$5000 and four $2000 awards: 1. must be a member of the California Coast Credit Union 2. have a GPA of 3.0 3. be accepted by or plan to attend an accredited college/university on a full-time basis

Point Loma Credit Union Deadline Date: 03/31/10 www.plcu.com
Three $2500 scholarships available based upon academic performance, extracurricular activities, and an essay. Need to be a member of the credit union. Students who are not may call 888-495-3400 to obtain a membership. All that is required is a $5 membership fee and an initial opening deposit of $5.

The Stay-Over-Program

Designed for Juniors and Seniors who have already decided on attending college. This program offers students the opportunity to see if UC Irvine is the campus for them. You become a college student for a day! Begins at noon and ends the next day at noon.  Hosting is from 1/16/08 through 3/6/08There is a $25.00 non-refundable application fee, which includes two meals and a tee shirt. California Retired Teachers Scholarship Date: 4/01/08
Scholarship based upon financial need, scholastic record, school  and community extra-curricular activities, and work experience. Must be planning to attend a North San Diego County community college or CSSM and must have a goal of earning a degree in the field of education.

Academic achievement with strong aviation/aerospace career interests, pursue a degree in math, physics, science or engineering. Must attend a four-year college/university.

MTS-SDGE  Deadline Date: 4/15/08
What does "Going Green" mean? Write at least 1000 words typed 12-point type to be awarded a laptop computer and a commemorative certificate honoring your award-winning essay!

Friends of the Cardiff-by-the-Sea Library Scholarship Deadline Date: 5/1/08

An essay competition for high school seniors who are children of full-time or retired public employees. Essay theme is: propose ways to reduce the accident rate among teenagers.
