Brett A.
Killeen, Principal
Torrey
Pines High School
I’m very proud to welcome
you to one of the best high schools in the United
States—Torrey
Pines High
School.
We are fortunate and thankful to be a part of a wonderfully supportive
community—a community that values education, service to our world, and
activities that help students develop in a well-rounded, diverse fashion.
Our students and staff are well-known for their amazing achievements, but
what most impresses me is their character and their desire to contribute to our
world in meaningful and sincere ways.
This is my fourth year
serving as Principal at TPHS, and it’s nice to convey that I have the same
passion about education and empowering students’ lives through learning as I did
as a new teacher seventeen years ago.
Prior to serving as principal here, I was a high school principal and
vice principal in San Bernardino
County, and preceding that
experience, I taught English at both the high school and middle school levels.
My experience across diverse demographics has enriched my educational
experiences, but one thing is constant—people matter.
Don’t ever be afraid to reach out and say, “Hello” or ask me anything.
As a father of three children, I try to foster an environment here at
TPHS the same way I would for my own children.
Our work this coming year
is focused and in alignment with our Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA).
The SPSA is the blueprint for action and it was developed by teachers,
classified staff, parents, students, and administration.
You may access the full document on this website, but we have embraced
four goals by which we commit to:
-
Increase our schoolwide and subgroup
student achievement by aligning learning objectives and activities with the
standards.
-
Increase Honors/Advanced Placement student
achievement via enrichment and differentiated opportunities.
-
Develop and implement a clear, consistent,
and systematic intervention plan to support at-risk, struggling students
and/or English Learners.
-
Create and ensure a safe and respectful
learning environment that supports, connects, and motivates all students and
staff.
Thank you for choosing
TPHS—Get connected, engaged, and excited.
We’re here for you and we welcome you as a Torrey Pines High School
Falcon! Together, let’s have a
terrific 2009/2010 school year.
Sincerely,
Brett A. Killeen
